Thank you for your helpful article in Mobilis about using the Zaurus. I just bought one and am going to follow your advice. I have one question. Is there a way to access email using the zaurus? I see special applications for accessing AT&T mail and compuserve, but I have just plain old internet mail. Thank you. Kerry B.
Hi Kerry You are welcome! It was nice to hear from you. I am glad that my Mobilis article was helpful. Congratulations on your purchase of a Zaurus. Is this the first organizer/PDA that you have owned? I recently upgraded to a ZR 5700. The spreadsheet is really handy and useful for me. If your internet provider can give you access to email as a data terminal, via a dial-up line, then you could use the Z's built-in terminal program. Give them a call and see if they offer that service. If they don't, then the next best that I know of would be to sign up with Compuserve and gateway to Internet through them. I have heard that Rupp Technologies is working on an internet email program for the Zaurus. Their web site is http://www.rupp.com Another ZR web site that you might enjoy is http://www.convict.com There is lots of chatter here about Z's from mostly users. I am interested to hear how you get along with your Zaurus. What model did you buy. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Egbert
Hi Egbert, Thank you for your speedy reply. I contacted Rupp and also got the following speedy reply from them: "We begin shipping Monday at the latest. Z-Em@il will dial into a straight PPP account (no CHAP/PAP support) and grab mail from a pop3 server as well as send mail." So I'll be calling them first thing on Monday! I have a ZR-5800 with a modem attachment. I have lived with and depended on my Wizard for the last four years. What I am trying to do with the Zaurus is not have to take my laptop along when I travel, except when I'm working on a project that absolutely requires a computer. Now that I will be able to get email, I think I've made the right choice. I am lucky enough to have small fingers and can actually touch type, somewhat awkwardly, on the Zaurus keyboard. Now I have to spend some time understanding the exchange capabilities. I have an infared port and the Zaurus Partner software. Take care, Kerry B.
Hi Kerry You are welcome. Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize that Rupp was so close to shipping their Email software. That is good news for all us Z owners. I, like you, am prone to using my Zaurus instead of a laptop when I travel. I had it with me on my last 3 week trip to Europe and the Middle East. It was hard to beat the convenience. I am so used to it, that I forgot it was in my suit pocket when I tripped a metal detector. It was a little embarassing, but I recovered. Bye for now Egbert
